Is there a difference between an alcohol intervention and drug intervention?

There are many different approaches and tactics that your trained interventionist may choose to pursue. Most are altered as the causes and conditions change during the intervention and are always evaluated against the reaction of the client. The needs and desires of the family factor in and the goals are discusses before hand and will influence the tact used.

In general alcohol abuse tends to be more out in the open and justified through common social occasions and peer groups. Alcohol abusers can sometimes have a harder time seeing the problem and will compare themselves with other drinkers.

Drug abuse on the other hand tends to be more secretive and can take longer to produce an admission due to guilt and shame. On the other hand problems often pile up faster for drug abusers and they often are willing to seek relief once the problem is out in the open.
