What is a drug intervention?

A drug intervention is a situation in where an individual is confronted on their self-destructive behaviors such as drug addiction and alcoholism through the help of loved ones and an intervention specialist. They often take place after a crisis such as an arrest for drunk driving.

Typically the interventionist has met with the participants before meeting with the alcohol or drug abuser to review the most effective ways to handle the intervention. The goal of the interventionist is to lead the client from admission of a problem to appropriate treatment. Treatment options are often arranged with family and loved ones before the intervention even takes place.

While the intervention itself only takes a few hours, the intervention process begins with the initial phone call for help.
